TPP. Manifesto.
Manifesto.
This will be a self constructed Learning Manifesto for this learning experience. It is not intended to be aesthetic, but practical and meaningful to my academic practice.
Manifesto for Learning.
Practical.
I want to explore topics that have a useful application to my teaching experience. So when provided the opportunity I will introduce real world examples and ideate in these. I appreciate this may seem limiting, but I find it inspiring.
Inclusive.
Inclusivity has many interpretation, and many of those will be true in their application to these blog posts and my studies. The one that I will be championing the most is trying to maintain an inclusive tone in the writing and expression of ideas. In my personal opinion academics sometimes have the tendency to over complicate or introduce language or terms that can be othering to none academics, which I question the ethics of. We tell the students to impress us in how simply you can explain a complicated idea, not how complicated you can make a simple idea, and I aspire to echo that sentiment here.
Selfish.
Selfishness is often seen as an insult, or a bad work but I don’t think it necessarily has to be. Much of the teaching work we do is for others in many ways. For this academic experience I want to invest in ideas and methods that are going to be useful for me, and trying ignore what others expectations might be of me.
Simple.
Similar to Inclusive, I want the language and the expression of ideas to be simple. I am a simple man, and I would like this reflected in the communication of the work.
A Little Ugly.
Working as an Architect and Art Director, there is a self induced pressure to produce work that is aesthetically pleasing. I am relinquishing this responsibility and indulging in the ugly, a little. This notion goes beyond the aesthetics really, and the rationale is I want the work to be discoveries, or investigative, and I don’t want polish to the work. I want it to be a little rough around the edges, and open to further discourse.
Throughout the units I may revisit, change, remove, add or scrap this manifesto, but as a starting point this is my commitment to me.
